Employees will be engaged through environmental education, awareness and training courses and workplace management solutions, as well as through involvement in the HSBC Climate Partnership. Several engagement projects have already taken place, click on the links below to read more.

Workplace management solutions will include flexible working practices, such as central working, home working, virtual office environments and providing teleconferencing equipment to reduce travel needs.

Raising awareness

Raising awareness among customers, stakeholders, and staff is an essential part of HSBC's commitment to the environment. By involving our staff around the world, we can improve operational efficiency, establish best practice, and illustrate the role that each individual can play within this commitment. There are currently five awareness raising campaigns across the Group.

  • HSBC Climate Partnership – As part of the five-year, US$100 million programme, Earthwatch will head a campaign to engage HSBC’s 312,000 employees worldwide and create 2,000 ‘Climate Champions’. Read more about the HSBC Climate Partnership.
  • Environmental Initiative Showcasing - At HSBC's main training facility in the UK, a micro-renewables trial is currently underway showcasing practical and inspiring environmental initiatives and technologies. Find out more about our micro-renewables trials..
  • World Environment Day - In 2007, HSBC sites in 29 countries undertook a range of environmental activities on World Environment Day - a United Nations Environment Programme sponsored event that takes place every year on 5 June. Read more about HSBC and World Environment Day.
  • Earth Day - Earth Day, 22 April, is more widely celebrated in North America where HSBC will continue to help raise environmental awareness amongst employees, customers, and stakeholders.
  • HSBC Environmental Conference - HSBC hosted its first Environmental Conference in June 2005. Read more about the first HSBC Environmental Conference.
  • Sharing Progress - HSBC will use this website and other media to promote and share best practice with HSBC's staff, customers and stakeholders. Find out more about HSBC in the news.
