The world's local bankHSBC Group member Bank of Bermuda is supporting the newest addition to the US Scientific Research Fleet, the Bank of Bermuda Atlantic Explorer. The world-renowned Bermuda Biological Station for Research (BBSR) will be able to expand its science and education programmes thanks to HSBC's support.
The Bermuda habitat is unique; it includes elements of both northern and southern Atlantic fauna and flora and a variety of habitats. The BBSR has contributed significantly to international efforts in understanding regional and global issues, including climate change; oceanic currents and circulation; ocean biogeochemistry and ecosystem health; the exchange of greenhouse gases between the ocean and atmosphere; and the diversity of microbial life in the Atlantic.
HSBC will conduct new research as well as educating the wider community about the need for research and the importance of understanding and protecting the environment.
