United Arab Emirates – English Language Programme

HSBC began running the English Language Programme in the United Arab Emirates in 1997, in conjunction with the British Council.

Students aged 16-19 from government-run schools and colleges submit essays which are then judged by the British Council. The essays may be written in Arabic or English and must be around 500 words. Approximately 40 students are then invited for interview, conducted by HSBC and the British Council, out of which 20 are chosen to attend a five week summer school in the UK. Students live with British families, increasing their knowledge and proficiency of the English language, and learn about another culture first hand.
