HSBC Global Education Trust

The HSBC Global Education Trust (the Trust) is responsible for the HSBC Group's global educational programmes, undertaking and managing international projects such as Students In Free Enterprise and Future First.

With the guidance of the Trust, HSBC concentrates its spending in five areas:

We believe that education is the key to prosperity and seek to open doors of opportunity for many by helping to raise their academic achievement and improve their vocational skills with formal and informal learning. The projects we support offer opportunities for success, a positive attitude, and hope for a better future.

Where possible and appropriate, we also favour projects that encourage employee involvement and volunteering.

Within the five key areas outlined above, we concentrate our support in the following ways:

  • Nurturing talent - Many talented young people never get the chance to fulfil their potential, often due to circumstances beyond their control, which means they, their families and the wider community all lose out. HSBC tries to make a difference to the lives of at least some of them by providing practical, financial support to give young people across the world access to the education they deserve.
  • Positive attitudes - A positive attitude, fostered through the development of skills such as teamwork, is essential if a child is to make a worthwhile contribution to the community in which he or she lives and may ultimately work. It is a quality that comes from a child's attitude toward others, their approach to problems, development of character, self-confidence, self-esteem and achievement outside the classroom.
  • Local solutions for local needs - In addition to supporting projects that address issues the world over, HSBC recognises that local needs may require local solutions. HSBC offices around the world are encouraged to help support education and young people in their own communities.
  • Involving our employees - Engaging our own employees is often an effective way of supporting education.

Applying for funding

Due to the many thousands of requests HSBC receives annually, we adhere strictly to the guidelines outlined above. It is therefore very unlikely that we will be able to give support to projects that fall outside these areas.
