UK – HSBC scholars

HSBC recognises that young people sometimes need help with their educational ambitions and supports many deserving students around the world in gaining access to education.

Often the barrier is financial and, in the UK, HSBC works specifically with independent schools (non-government funded) to support around 50 students per year who have demonstrated excellent academic potential but lack the necessary funding. HSBC pays half the costs and 25 schools match this amount, with the schools choosing the deserving students.

HSBC began the programme in 2001 and has already seen many successes from past HSBC scholars, including:

  • A member of the prestigious Royal Ballet Company;
  • A research associate assigned to a high-level committee of the government of India; and
  • A scientist working in the Clinical Neuroscience department at Imperial College London.

In addition to giving the students increased opportunities, the HSBC scholars' programme increases the diversity of students within high-standard educational institutions.
