The world's local bankHong Chi Association is one of Hong Kong's largest non-profit organisations, dedicated to serving people with a wide range of learning disabilities, including those with autism and speech difficulties, and their families.
HSBC has worked with the Association on the Mainland/Hong Kong Exchange Programme in Special Education since 1997, helping to increase the quality of education and teaching available for students with learning disabilities. A conference is held once every two years, hosted alternately by Hong Kong or a city in mainland China for teachers from all schools in Hong Kong and mainland China. The programme includes lectures and site visits to local special schools. Notes and conference materials are published after the conference and distributed to schools that did not send a representative.
The theme for the 2007 conference is Curriculum Reform and School-based Curriculum. Around 70 participants are expected to attend and it will benefit 12,000 people indirectly. Past topics have included teaching students with autism, speech therapy, curriculum development and the production of teaching aids.
